In recent years European DJs have taken the world by storm. Their influence on modern EDM music among other genres is undeniable and they have performed any of the world’s largest venues and events. The role of the DJ has become so prominent that there is now a dj agency roster featured in many major talent agencies. Have a look at some of the most influential European DJs in recent history below. The role of the DJ is constantly evolving and this post will explore some of the talents contributing to the changing roles.


Hailing from Paris, France Daft Punk made a huge splash around the world initially with their song “Harder Better Faster” which was eventually reworked into Kanye West’s smash hit “Stronger” from his 2008 album Graduation. Daft Punk’s song “One More Time” was also widely successful reaching platinum status on the UK charts. Daft Punk expanded their influence further into the hip-hop scene with their collaborations “Get Lucky” with Pharrell Williams and “I Feel It Coming” with The Weeknd. These European DJs really paved the way for the beginning of an era in EDM music.


The late Avicii was a major influencer in the European DJ scene as well, emerging from Stockholm, Sweden. His 2011 song “Levels” was the first that launched him into commercial success earning him 2x Platinum status in 7 different countries. In 2013 Avicii released two follow up smash hits “Hey Brother” and “Wake Me Up”. The unfortunate passing of the artist in 2018 cut his career short though his influence on other DJs is undeniable and there is even a Netflix documentary Avicii: True Stories about him out now. His songs still hype up stadiums across the world.


Calvin Harris is a DJ from Dumphries, UK and happens to be signed to a live music booking agency uk version of WME (William Morris Endeavor). He has had numerous platinum hits and has collaborated with various artists including Migos. Rihanna, Khalid, and Frank Ocean among others. Harris has even produced a song for hip-hop artist Bas entitled “Love Souvenir”. Some of Calvin Harris’ biggest hits include “One Kiss” featuring Dua Lipa, “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna, and “Slide” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos. 


David Guetta is a French DJ and one of the older ones in the industry at age 51. Guetta’s experience certainly  qualifies him as an influential European DJ. He is most know for his smash hit “Sexy Bitch” featuring Akon, and “Memories” featuring Kid Cudi. Guetta has worked with many artists throughout his career including Kesha, Ne-Yo, Flo-Rida, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and many more. His influence is seen in many DJ acts today.


Martin Garrix is a 22-year-old Dutch DJ that has headlined festivals and performed monster venues at his young age. His most popular songs include “Animals”, “High On Life” with Bonn, and “Ocean” with Khalid. Garrix is currently making waves across the world.
